Are we naked apes because we're aquatic?

Elaine Morgan talks about the hasty rejection of the idea that humans spent some of their evolutionary development in an aquatic environment, and makes the case for looking into the question:

Ya, like that took more than 17 minutes to watch, and it was interesting. She sat through the whole thing, so I assume she's not bipedal? Are you posting this because you want to support her idea, or because you found it interesting and you want to discuss it, or what?

I Love the aquatic ape theory and have loved it since undergrad. I remember seeing a documentary on it and found it fascinating and pretty plausible.
I even had the guts (or goofiness) once to attend a talk given by Richard Leakey at Ball State and during the question and answer session, I asked him about his opinion of the aquatic ape theory. He said it was bunk and talked about it a bit, but gave absolutely no reasons why it's bunk except that we don't have the fossils to prove it. Of course, we don't have the fossils for about 7 million years of early human history (missing link time) to disprove it either... hmmm

This is timely for me since I just finished reading Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas by Tom Robbins. Maria, what was the name of the documentary? I'm interested. Bud, I think perhaps her legs are better adapted for pushing through water.
