Bush, now and then

Andrew Sullivan brings attention to a really, really amazing video of George Bush now vs. George Bush then... and it's probably not quite what you think.

You're probably thinking this is some hit job showing Bush changing his positions on important issues or something along those lines. That would be easy, but that's not it. No, this video shows George Bush now -- babbling, inarticulate, a disorganized speaker -- vs. the George Bush who ran for governor.

It's stunning, actually.

Maybe, as president, you have to have such a greater knowledge base. I don't know. It seems to me that it's much easier to speak eloquently on subject about which one knows a great deal. Perhaps as governor, W was hanging on to the edge and able to stay atop the knowledge base required. As president, he's obviously in way over his head. But I may be simplifying.
